5/24/2017 9:56:00 AM | Men's Basketball
EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern will host Creighton Nov. 15 at Allstate Arena in Rosemont as part of the 2017 Gavitt Games. The contest will be televised by either FS1 or BTN and game time will be determined at a future date.
The Gavitt Games is a unique early-season series played between the Big Ten and BIG EAST conferences and named in honor of Dave Gavitt, founder of the BIG EAST and basketball visionary.
The Wildcats also competed in last year's event, dropping a 70-68 buzzer-beater at Butler.
Creighton posted 25-10 record last season and earned an NCAA tournament berth where it dropped a 84-72 first-round matchup to Rhode Island. The Bluejays are slated to return three starters, including first-team All-BIG EAST selection Marcus Foster and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year Khyri Thomas.
Northwestern is coming off a 24-12 mark during the 2016-17 campaign that included a first-round NCAA tournament win over Vanderbilt before suffering a narrow loss to eventual national runner-up Gonzaga in the second round. Four starters and the top five returning scorers are anticipated to return for the Wildcats, including second-team All-Big Ten selection Bryant McIntosh and third-team All-Big Ten pick Scottie Lindsey.
Northwestern leads the all-time series between the schools, 3-2. Creighton won the most recent meeting, 87-79, on Dec. 22, 2011 in Omaha despite a 34-point performance by Drew Crawford. NU defeated the Bluejays, 65-52, the previous year in Evanston behind 23 points from John Shurna.
