EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern men's soccer head coach Tim Lenahan announced the addition of two student-athletes that will join the program in the fall of 2017.
Rouven Wahlfeldt, who originally hails from Velbert, Germany, transfers to Northwestern after completing his undergraduate career at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. The defensive midfielder played in 60 games at UNCG, collecting 55 starts, five goals and four assists. A Southern Conference All-Freshman choice in 2013, he missed the 2014 season with an injury before becoming a team captain for his junior and senior seasons, leading UNCG to 22 wins over those two campaigns. Wahlfeldt graduated with a degree in international business and a 3.88 GPA. He will pursue a master's degree of science in communication at Northwestern.
Max Silberg, a native of Pittsburgh, Penn., comes to Evanston after a successful prep career at the Kiski School in Saltsburg, Penn. Silberg was named Kiski's MVP after leading the team in scoring with 24 goals and 11 assists. He finished off his senior season with 14 goals and seven assists, and was selected to play in the NSCAA High School All-American Game in Raleigh, N.C. He spent his sophomore year in full-time residency with the Philadelphia Union Academy of the MLS.
"Rouven Wahlfeldt and Max Silberg add to what we believe was already a very solid class. Rouven will provide lots of experience to our midfield, and as a two-year captain at UNCG, extensive leadership experience. Max can score with either foot and has the ability to develop into a very good attacking player at the Big Ten level. Both come from great families, are a perfect fit for Northwestern"
