EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern swept a doubleheader on Sunday to earn its fifth straight 20-win season, extending the program record.

The 21st-ranked Wildcats trounced Penn State, 6-0, to close out the Big Ten season before beating Chicago State by the same score in the regular season finale.

"We are excited to get to 20 wins again, especially this year," head coach Arvid Swan said. "I think this was the most challenging schedule that we have put together, so I am really proud of the guys. Over a five-year period, to get to 20 wins each year shows great consistency with our program."

Northwestern finished the regular season with a 20-9 (7-4 B1G) record and earned the No. 5 seed this week's Big Ten Tournament. The 'Cats will face 12-seed Michigan State in the first round on Thursday, April 27 at 10:30 a.m. CT at Purdue. NU swept the Spartans, 7-0, on the road last weekend.

The winner will face No. 4 seed Wisconsin on Friday at 10:30 a.m. CT.

Chicago's Big Ten Team played host to Penn State outdoors at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center Sunday morning. Konrad Zieba and Sam Shropshire, ranked 68th nationally, got things off to a good start in doubles with a 7-5 win over No. 58 Constant De La Bassetiere and Christian Lakoseljac. Their win gave the 'Cats the match's first point following a 6-4 victory by No. 70 Strong Kirchheimer and Dominik Starý at No. 2.

The 'Cats then rolled right through singles with Jason Seidman quickly picking up his 23rd win of the year, 6-1, 6-2, over Marc Collado at No. 6. Shropshire wrapped his match up at No. 3 nearly as fast, winning 6-4, 6-0, and Ben Vandixhorn toughed out a second set win to beat Ben Lieb, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 to give Northwestern the clinching point.

No. 65 Zieba won by retirement while leading in the second set, and Kirchheimer got a straight sets win at No. 1 over De La Bassetiere. Starý's match at No. 4 went unfinished tied at three in the third frame.

Northwestern equaled its doubles success in the nightcap against Chicago State. Chris Ephron and Michael Lorenzini rattled off five straight games at No. 3 to win 6-2 before Zieba and Vandixhorn teamed up to win 6-3 at No. 2.

Brenden Volk got a chance to enter the lineup at No. 6 against the Cougars, and he made his appearance count with a 6-1, 6-0 clinic over Cody Wurzelbacher to put the Wildcats up 2-0.

Zieba dominated by the same 6-1, 6-0 score at No. 2 to put the 'Cats a point away from the clinch, and Vandixhorn finished things off with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4. Starý (No. 3) and Seidman (No. 5) finished their matches out with both needing just one more game to pick up victories and bring the final margin to 6-0.
