Kim Wins 2017 Mary Fossum Award At B1G Championships

MAINEVILLE, Ohio – Junior Hannah Kim was honored with her second consecutive Mary Fossum Award, given to the Big Ten golfer with the lowest season stroke average relative to par, as the regular-season came to a close on Sunday at the 2017 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships at TPC River's Bend (Par-72; 6,357 yards). The No. 15 Wildcats finished as runners-up in the event, two strokes behind Conference champion Michigan State, and nine strokes ahead of third-place Ohio State.

Sophomore Stephanie Lau carded a 1-under 71 to tie for fifth, and received All-Tournament Team honors in recognition. This marks Lau's second consecutive Top-5 finish at the Big Ten Championships, she paced the Wildcats with a T4 result last season in her Conference tournament debut.
 
Senior Kacie Komoto recorded her second straight strong round to close out the competition, carding a 2-under 70 to get to 3-over for the tournament and a career-best eight-place result at the Big Ten Championships.
 
Juniors Kim and Sarah Cho shared 12th, while sophomore Janet Mao finished 16th. Northwestern was the only team in the field to place four golfers in the Top-12, and five golfers inside the Top-16.

The Big Ten Network will debut coverage of the Big Ten Women's Golf Championships on Saturday, April 29 at 11 a.m. CT.
 
The Wildcats now await their destination for the 2017 NCAA Regionals. The NCAA Championships field will be announced Thursday morning live on the golf channel, with teams heading to regional sites in Columbus, Ohio, Athens, Georgia, Lubbock, Texas and Albuquerque, New Mexico the following weekend.
 
Northwestern won the 2016 Shoal Creek (AL) Regional last season, the first Regional win in program history, on the way to a best-ever ninth-place result at the 2016 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The 2017 NCAA Golf Championships for both men and women will be hosted at Rich Harvest Farms west of Chicago.
