EVANSTON, Ill. — The 12th-ranked Northwestern lacrosse team will wrap up a four-game road trip with a pair of games on Long Island this weekend. Chicago's Big Ten Team will play a neutral-site game against No. 5 Syracuse (5-0) at Hofstra University on Friday at 5 p.m., before traveling to Stony Brook to take on the No. 8 Seawolves (3-0) on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Northwestern has lost back-to-back overtime games against Colorado and No. 4 USC by an identical 11-10 final. It is the first time in program history the 'Cats have lost back-to-back overtime games.
KEEP IT UP, KINNA
Freshman midfielder Megan Kinna filled the stat sheet at USC two weeks ago, finishing the game with season highs in draw controls (6), ground balls (6) and caused turnovers (2). Kinna's six ground balls were the most by a Wildcat this season. The Maple Ridge, British Columbia, native also had a big game against No. 8 Notre Dame, scoring her first three career goals in a 14-13 win over the Fighting Irish.
GO, GO, ESPO!
Graduate student and co-captain Christina Esposito continues to lead the Wildcats offensively, entering the weekend with a team-high 14 goals through four games. Esposito has scored at least three goals in all four contests and has matched her career high with four goal twice. The West Babylon, New York, native enters Friday's game versus Syracuse on a career-long 21-game point streak dating back to last season.
PAIR OF WILDCATS NAMED TO WATCH LIST
Esposito and junior attack Selena Lasota were among 50 women named to the 2017 Tewaaraton Award Watch List Tuesday evening. The two Wildcats were among 10 student-athletes from the Big Ten named to the list on the women's side. The award is given annually to the top male and female lacrosse player in the country by the Tewaaraton Foundation. This is the first time that Esposito has been named to the watch list and the third time Lasota has been a candidate for the award.
INGRILLI SETS A NEW CAREER HIGH
Senior midfielder and Long Island native Catie Ingrilli has scored in each of the first four games this season, setting a new career-best streak for consecutive games with a goal. Ingrilli has five goals through the first four contests. She is already halfway to her career high of 10 goals set last season.
IN THE CIRCLE
Junior Shelby Fredericks continues to climb the NU record book as one of the program's top draw control specialists. Fredericks had a season-high nine draw controls at USC on Feb. 18, moving up to No. 3 on the all-time list with 209 total. The New York native is fourth among active players in the country with 4.64 draw controls per game.
IT DOESN'T GET ANY TOUGHER
Northwestern is once again playing one of the toughest schedules in the country this season. The 'Cats have already played two top-10 teams (No. 8 Notre Dame and No. 4 USC) and have two more top-10 opponents up this weekend. The most recent IWLCA Top 20 features 12 teams on Northwestern's 2017 schedule, including nine of the top-10 teams in the country. The only team currently ranked in the top 10 that NU will not face in the regular season is No. 3 Florida.
CAT-NADIANS
The Canadian Lacrosse Associated and senior women's national team coaching staff announced last week the selection of Northwestern freshman Kinna, Lasota and Stroup to the roster for the 2017 FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup this summer in Guildford, England. The trio of Wildcats were a part of the U19 Canadian Team coached by Canisius' Scott Teeter that won the nation's first-ever world championship in 2015.
