Chan and Hamilton Selected for NCAA Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. -- No. 8 Northwestern will send Pauline Hamilton and Stephanie Chan to compete against the best in the country at the NCAA Fencing Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. next weekend.
The NCAA announced fields of 25 fencers for each individual weapon group this past week. Hamilton was one of five fencers from the Midwest Region to make the Championships in epee while Chan was one of eight in foil.
Hamilton's selection caps off what has been an especially impressive freshman campaign. She finished with a bronze medal at the NCAA Midwest Regionals last weekend in Detroit, Mich. She helped the epee squad take home first place at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships and finished fifth in the individual event.
Chan is making the second NCAA Championships appearance of her career as a senior after qualifying in 2015. She led the Wildcats with a team-high seventh place finish at the Midwest Regionals and finished fifth overall at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships.
Both fencers will compete in round-robins in their individual weapon groups, with the top four fencers advancing to the knockout round.
Northwestern has finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships for the last 17 years. Chan and Hamilton will try to continue that streak as the Wildcats finish their season.
