Mallory Weisse Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern sophomore goalkeeper Mallory Weisse has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Weisse helped lead the ninth-ranked Wildcats to a pair wins over Canisius and No. 8 Notre Dame in the opening week of the 2017 season. She made six saves and allowed just seven goals in the 'Cats' 9-7 win over the Golden Griffins in the season opener before making 10 stops - including eight in the second half - in a 14-13 victory over the Fighting Irish on the road.
The Westfield, New Jersey, native has made double-digit saves nine times in her career, including four times in her last six games dating back to last season.
This marks Weisse's second career Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor and is the first for Chicago's Big Ten Team since Lauren Murray earned the award on April 19 of last season.
Chicago's Big Ten Team is back on the road for another tough test when it travels to Colorado on Sunday, February 12. The game will be aired on the PAC-12 Network and is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CT.
