EVANSTON, Ill. – Four first-year Wildcats will compete against the top fencers in the country this weekend at the December iteration of the North American Cup in Portland, Oregon, while junior Yvonne Chart will fence in a satellite World Cup event.

Jacqueline Hua, Isabella Min and Alexis Browne are all competing in the Div. I Sabre competition, which is on Friday. Anya Harkness is competing in the epee competition, which starts Sunday evening and continues on Monday.

In the sabre event, the top-32 finishers will receive national ranking points, while points are awarded to the top-64 finishers in epee.

Hua has posted a 14-4 start to her collegiate career in duals bouts. Hua earned 12 of her wins at the Vassar Invitational and earned one pool win at the October NAC in Anaheim, California.

Min is 11-8 to start the season, including an 8-1 performance at the Vassar Invitational. Min advanced to the knockout round at the October NAC and picked up two pools wins.

Browne missed the start of the collegiate season with an injury, but competed at the October NAC and advanced to the round of 64 with a direct elimination win. Browne also competed at the Remenyik Open to start the season and earned a direct elimination there as well.

Harkness has hit the ground running to start her collegiate career and is 14-7 and already a integral member of the epee squad. Harkness won three pool bouts at the October NAC and also finished second in the junior epee competition at the Remenyik Open with three direct elimination bout wins.

Chart, representing Great Britain, is competing in her third World Cup event of the fall in a senior foil international competition held in Antalya, Turkey, on Saturday. Chart is the seventh-highest ranked fencer competing in a field of 35. There are four fencers in the top-100 in the event, led by Saskia Loretta Van Erven Garcia of Colombia, ranked 34th internationally in senior foil with 46 ranking points.

Chart recently improved in the international rankings herself after finishing in the top-eight at a World Cup event in Slovakia in late November and earning an international ranking point. Chart is 12-3 to start the season for the Wildcats and has only competed in one event, the Elite Invitational.
