After graduating in 2013, former Northwestern standout Reggie Hearn has continued to be a strong contributor in the world of basketball, taking his talents to the NBA G-League and USA Basketball.
This past August, Hearn was named to the official 12-member, 2017 USA Basketball Men's AmeriCup Team, led by former NBA head coach Jeff Van Gundy. The team finished 5-0 and won the gold medal. Hearn averaged 10.0 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 47.1 percent from the field and 47.6 percent (10-of-21) from 3-point territory.
"It's the accomplishment of something that I did not think I would ever come close to in my entire lifetime," Hearn said after winning gold at the 2017 Americup. "It's hard to put into words…But, I get to wear a gold medal around my neck, take it back to my friends and family to share it with them, because they helped me get to where I am."
In November, Hearn was added to the 2017 USA Men's World Cup Qualifying Team. Hearn and Team USA are playing in the FIBA World Cup Qualifying games that will determine the nations that compete in the 2019 FIBA World Cup hosted in China.
In USA's first qualifying game against Puerto Rico (Nov. 24), Hearn finished tied for the team-high with 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds to help USA to an 85-78 victory. USA went on to top Mexico, 91-55, in its second qualifying game on Nov. 26. Team USA will take on Cuba (Feb. 23) and Puerto Rico (Feb. 26) in its next round of qualifying games.
In addition to his contributions to USA Basketball, Hearn has spent time in the NBA's G-League with the Idaho Stampede and Reno Bighorns. In four G-League seasons, he has seen action in 161 games with 100 starts and has compiled 1,667 points (10.4 ppg) and 685 rebounds (4.3 rpg) while shooting 43 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from behind the arc. Hearn is currently a member of the Bighorns, an affiliate of the Sacramento Kings.
Hearn played four seasons at Northwestern from 2009-13. In 90 games, he compiled 671 points, 266 rebounds, 95 assists and shot 45.9 percent from the field, 35.5 percent from 3-point and 75.5 percent from the foul line over his career. He led Northwestern and ranked 13th in the Big Ten with an average of 13.4 points per game as a senior in 2012-13. Hearn earned honorable mention All-Big Ten in his final season with the 'Cats and was named an Academic All-Big Ten honoree three times.
