Miller, Pentenga Earn All-America Distinction

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern landed a pair of individuals on the Longstreth/NFHCA All-America teams announced Tuesday. Senior back Sophia Miller, a first-team selection, and junior midfielder Puck Pentenga, a third-team pick, represent the Wildcats.

It is the first All-America honor for either player. This is the first time that Northwestern has landed multiple players on the All-America teams since Nikki Parsley (second team) and Tara Puffenberger (third team) both earned the honor in 2013.

Northwestern now has had at least one All-American in eight of Tracey Fuchs' nine seasons as head coach, including the last eight consecutive.

A native of Medford, New Jersey, Miller exits Northwestern in style by becoming the school's first first-team All-American since Chelsea Armstrong in 2012. A four-year starter and standout on the NU defense and in the midfield, Miller bookended her career with NCAA tournament appearances, earning one as a freshman and another this past season when the Wildcats advanced to the quarterfinal round. A unanimous first-team All-Big Ten pick and a first-team All-West Region honoree, Miller ranked third on the team with 11 assists while tallying an overtime game-winning goal at Iowa.

Pentenga enjoyed a breakout junior year in helping guide Northwestern to the postseason. The the Big Ten in assists (17) and shots (107), she also contributed 11 goals, none bigger than her tally in overtime that gave Northwestern a 3-2 win over Louisville in the NCAA tournament. A native of Ede, The Netherlands, Pentenga ranked first on the team and third in the Big Ten with 37 points. She posted a goal and three assists in a win at Ball State Oct. 8 and followed it up five days later with a first-half hat trick in the victory at Iowa.
