EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will continue its annual tradition of hosting Autism Awareness Day when the Wildcats welcome Nebraska to historic Beardsley Gym on Sunday.
Northwestern women's basketball has a special connection with autism and since head coach Joe McKeown took over in 2008, the Wildcats have sought to raise awareness of the developmental disorder. To promote knowledge and understanding for those in the Chicagoland area, Northwestern partners with Autism Speaks and hosts this annual game.
While this year's event will be in a different venue at historic Beardsley Gym inside Evanston Township High School, there will still be a quiet room inside the gym. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for a ceremonial tip-off and stay after the game for post-game autographs.
Tickets for the 2 p.m. game Sunday against Nebraska are $7 for adults and $5 for youth. Groups of 15 or more can receive discounted tickets for $3 each. Fans can purchase tickets here.
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support. The organization seeks to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism spectrum disorder and advance research into causes and interventions.
