EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern opens the 2017-18 regular season Friday at Chicago State. Tip is set for 7 p.m. at the Jones Convocation Center.
The Wildcats won their 12th straight exhibition contest Sunday in the team's first game action, defeating Missouri-St. Louis 59-40.
Chicago's Big Ten Team enters the season with a young roster. First-year Wildcats include four-star guards Lindsey Pulliam and Jordan Hamilton, as well as three-star guards Lauryn Satterwhite and Brooke Pikiell. The four-member class ranked No. 17 nationally by espnW HoopGurlz and was the highest-rated incoming class in the Big Ten.
Hamilton co-led the Wildcats with 12 points during the exhibition along with sophomore Abi Scheid. Hamilton also led the team in minutes with 35 and had three steals.
Pulliam finished with seven points and three steals, and junior forward Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah recorded 12 rebounds, including four in the first five minutes of the game.
Northwestern is coming off a 20-11 (8-8 B1G) season in 2016-17, the team's second 20-win campaign in the last three years.
Chicago State, part of the Western Athletic Conference, is in the midst of a 36-game losing streak, dating back to a win against Seattle on February 4, 2016.
Season Opening Success
Northwestern has won eight season openers in a row by an average of 23.3 points. The Wildcats have won their last five by double-digits, including a 54-point win at Chicago State on Nov. 14, 2014, the team's last trip to CSU.
Series History
The 'Cats are 7-2 all-time against the Cougars and have won the last six dating back to the 2009-10 season.
Next
Chicago's Big Ten Team will play its first home contest of the new season at historic Beardsley Gym in Evanston Township High School Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. against Oakland.
