Wildcats Post Encouraging First Day at Elite Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Northwestern collected three wins on the first day of the Elite Invitational in the very first dual meet of the season hosted by Ohio State.
 
The Wildcats defeated Air Force, 16-11, in the first dual of the day before dispatching Cleveland State 22-5. The other win of the day came in the last dual against Cornell, also by a 22-5 margin.
 
Northwestern slipped up against North Carolina, 16-11, and gave Penn everything it could handle in a narrow 15-12 defeat.
 
Junior Yvonne Chart and sophomore Abby Tartell led the 'Cats on Saturday with a 7-2 record in foil and sabre respectively. Senior Katie Van Riper also posted a 7-3 record in epee, carrying an extra workload.
 
First years Justine Banbury, Sarah Filby, Sofia Simontov, Isabella Min, Anya Harkness all earned their first career collegiate duals wins. Harkness was an impressive 5-1 in epee, while Banbury earned a clean 3-0 sweep against Cornell.
 
The Wildcats wrap up the Elite Invitational tomorrow with duals against Princeton, NJIT and rivals Ohio State.
