Four Wildcats Named NFHCA All-West Region

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern landed four individuals on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-West Region teams announced Monday.

Senior back Sophia Miller and junior midfielder Puck Pentenga are first-team selections while redshirt junior forward Pascale Massey and junior midfielder Eva van Agt are second-team picks.

By virtue of the recognition, each of the individuals now are eligible for All-America distinction.

Miller capped her standout career by earning her second all-region selection. She was named to the second team a year ago as a junior. The Medford, New Jersey, native led the Wildcats to their second NCAA tournament berth in her career as NU reached the national quarterfinal round by knocking off Louisville in the round of 16. Miller ranked third on the team with 11 assists and her lone goal of the season was the game-winner in overtime in a victory at Iowa Oct. 13.

Pentenga enjoyed a breakout campaign, leading the Big Ten in assists (17) and shots (107). She also contributed 10 goals, none bigger than her tally in overtime that gave Northwestern a 3-2 win over Louisville in the NCAA tournament. A native of Ede, The Netherlands, Pentenga ranked first on the team and third in the Big Ten with 37 points. The all-region selection is the first of her career.

Massey also earned her first all-region distinction, coming on strong to lead Northwestern with 14 goals this season. The Bromsgrove, England, native ranked third in the Big Ten with her goal total and was second on the team to Pentenga with 32 points. She had a flair for the dramatic, scoring two goals in a win at eventual national runner-up Maryland, tallying an overtime game-winner against Ohio State as well as one late in a Big Ten tournament quarterfinal win over Rutgers.

Also earning a first all-region pick was van Agt who was a vital member of the Northwestern midfield. The native of Heilig Landstichting, The Netherlands, ranked tied for fourth on the team with six goals and 15 points while helping the Wildcats record eight victories over ranked opponents.
