#B1GCats Drop Season Finale Despite Hot Start, Tight Sets

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Despite a strong hitting performance in the last match of the season, Northwestern fell to Maryland at the XFINITY Center Pavilion in three sets.
Senior outside hitter Symone Abbott led the squad with 10 kills, while senior setter Taylor Tashima accumulated her 10th and final double-double of the season (31 assists, 11 digs).
Northwestern finished the year with a hitting percentage of .247, the best single-season mark in program history. The previous high mark was .245 in 1987.
First-year middle blocker Alana Walker's .297 season clip is the best mark for a rookie in Wildcat history, surpassing Liz Douglass's .278 hitting percentage in 1980.
The Wildcats flashed their offensive firepower in the first set, hitting .424 in the 25-23 setback. First years Danyelle Williams and Alana Walker combined to amass eight kills, good for a .538 clip.
Despite falling behind, 22-16, Northwestern stormed back with five unanswered points to tighten the game up at 22-21. The Terrapins were able to fend off the Wildcats' onslaught and held on for the match opening victory.
Despite a late lead in the second set, Northwestern was unable to secure the match-evening tally, and Maryland rebounded to win, 25-22.
The Wildcats were not able to top the Terrapins in the third set, losing 25-13.
