Chart Improves International Ranking With Top-Eight Finish

EVANSTON, Ill. – Junior Yvonne Chart finished in eighth place at the Memorial De Ferdinand De Martinengo, a World Cup senior women's foil competition held in Bratislava, Slovakia on Sunday.
Chart, representing Great Britain, earned one international ranking point for reaching the quarterfinals at the event, with over 70 competitors in the field. Chart now has two raknings points to her name.
Chart started the day strong with a 4-2 record in pools and an indicator of +7, the third highest in her pool.
Chart went on an impressive run in the direct elimination bouts starting in the Round of 64, when she defeated Adrianna Frackowiak of Poland 15-4. Chart went on to coast past Yana Andreyenka of Belarus, 15-8 in the round of 32.
In the Round of 16, Chart won her third straight elimination bout by defeating Andrea Bimova from the Czech Republic, 15-9. Bimova was ranked in the top-100 internationally in senior foil and has 14.5 international ranking points.
Chart's run finally came to an end in the quarterfinal, when she fell to Marina Calugareanu from Germany in a narrow 13-12 result. Calugareanu was ranked 72nd in senior foil and owns 20 ranking points.
Chart has fenced twice this fall for Great Britain in World Cup events. So far in duals season, Chart has totaled a 12-3 record for the Wildcats with all of her bouts coming at the Elite Invitational.
Northwestern will be back in action in 2018 with the January North American Cup starting on Jan. 5 before it resumes duals competition at the Western Invitational on Jan. 14.
