EVANSTON, Ill. -- Ohio University has named Northwestern associate head coach Ali Johnstone as its new head field hockey coach.
Johnstone joins the Bobcats after serving six years on the staff at NU, including serving the last four as the associate head coach.
"I am so grateful that I have had the opportunity to work with Ali," Northwestern head coach Tracey Fuchs said. "Ohio University is not only getting a fantastic field hockey coach, but also one of the best and most loyal people a university can ask for. I can't thank her enough for all she has done for Northwestern and I will miss her friendship and all she has done for our program over the last six years. She has been such a wonderful mentor to our young women and I know she is going to do great things at Ohio."
During her time in Evanston, Johnstone helped lead the Wildcats to a pair of Big Ten titles as the team won a share of the regular season crown in 2013 and the program's first tournament title in 2014. In each of her six seasons at NU, the Wildcats earned a top-10 national ranking.
Northwestern twice advanced to the NCAA tournament, in 2014 and then again in 2017 when the Wildcats recorded a win to earn a spot in the quarterfinal round.
Johnstone's time at NU saw individuals earn a total of 20 All-Big Ten honors, 20 NFHCA All-West Region recognitions and seven All-America honors. This year's all-region and All-America awards are still to be released.
A 2002 graduate of Ohio University, Johnstone twice earned All-America recognition during her time in Athens. She became the first Bobcat to earn first-team All-MAC each of her four seasons. A three-time first-team All-West Region honoree as well as the 2001 Ohio Female Student-Athlete of the Year, Johnstone holds the career record for assists (36) and ranks third in all-time points (106) and fourth in career goals (35).
