Northwestern Has Strong Showing on Day One of TYR Invite

EVANSTON, Ill. — The Northwestern men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up day one of the TYR Invitational with the Wildcats leading the field on the women's side, while the men sit in second place.
Northwestern's women's program posted four pool records on Friday. First year Calypso Sheridan set a pool record in the 200 IM when she took first with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:57.82. Mary Warren also tallied a pool record when she finished first in the 50 free with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 22.72.
Sheridan later teamed up with Sophie Angus, Ilektra Lebl and Anna Keane to win the 400 medley relay with a pool-record time of 3:39.87. Sheridan's 100 backstroke leg in the relay timed in at 53.40, which set a pool record and qualified as an NCAA 'B' cut time.
Warren and Keane, along with Malorie Han and Nicole Aarts, helped the Wildcats capture the top spot in the 200 free relay to begin the evening with a season-best time of 1:32.06.
Angus claimed a victory in the 50 breast when she touched the wall in 28.53. Sheridan was right behind Angus in 28.86 to take fourth.
In addition to helping the 'Cats to a win in the 400 medley relay, Lebl notched an NCAA 'B' cut time in the 200 IM when she touched the wall in 2:00.85.
Sophomore Krytal Lara edged out a victory in the 50 back when she turned in a time of 25.34.
Northwestern swept the top spots in Friday's diving events as Olivia Rosendahl won the women's 3-meter with a score of 333.25, while Ben Magliato won the men's 1-meter with a score of 295.90.
Will Hofstadter got the men's side started with a second-place finish in the 50 breast with time of 25.26.
In the 50 back, Nick Peterson and Jack Thorne finished second and third, respectively. Peterson posted an NU season-best time of 22.92, while Thorne finished in 23.07.
Almog Olshtein swam a season-best in the 50 free for the Wildcats, finishing seventh with a time of 20.65.
Liam Gately's 4:30.67 set a new season-best time in the 500 free for Northwestern.
The TYR Invitational will continue on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT.
