FINAL RESULTS
EVANSTON, Ill. — A short-handed Northwestern women's swimming and diving team was unable to keep up with Wisconsin's depth in a Big Ten Dual meet at Norris Aquatics Center Saturday morning as the Wildcats fell, 161-130.
The loss snaps a four dual-meet winning streak by the 'Cats, who competed at the Norris Aquatics Center Saturday with just 13 swimmers.
The 200-yard medley relay team of first years Sheridan, Sophie Angus, sophomore Nicole Aaarts and senior Anna Keane got things started with a second-place finish in 1:43.86. Sheridan posted a season-best 25.19 50-back split to start things off, but the 'Cats were unable to keep up with the Badgers down the stretch.
Angus picked up the Wildcats' first win of the morning with a 1:03.86 in the 100 breaststroke. Angus trailed Wisconsin's Marissa Berg heading into the final 25 yards, but was able to use a strong kick to pull ahead and win by six-tenths of a second.
The Weston, Connecticut, native has won the 100 breast in all four of NU's meets this season.
Sheridan and Angus continued to perform well to lead a 2-3-4 finish by the 'Cats in the 200 breaststroke. Sheridan finished second in 2:19.11 with Angus just behind in 2:20.63. Sophomore Emma Hruby finished four in a season-best 2:23.63.
The Wildcats competed in the 400 individual medley for the first time this season and did not disappoint, claiming each of the top four spots. Sheridan led the way with the Wildcats' win of the afternoon, just missing a NCAA 'B' cut with a time of 4:21.85.
Classmate Ilektra Lebl finished in 4:28.07 to place second, sophomore Sandra Freeman came in at 4:31.40 to finish third and Modeas touched the wall at 4:31.44 to finish fourth.
Junior Alex Grimes finished second in the 200 butterfly with a 2:05.64 and senior Anna Keane also finished second in the 100 free with a time of 52.33.
Despite not having any Badgers to compete against, the NU divers put together one of their strongest performances of the season. Junior Olivia Rosendahl posted her top score of the season in the 3-meter springboard with a 358.28 and classmate Eryn Scannell finished second with a career-best 294.83. First-year Sarah Gardner finished third with a season-best 212.63.
Rosendahl also led the trio in the 1-meter springboard with a season-best 318.76. Scannell was second with a 271.73 and Gardner scored a season-best 258.08.
