ANAHEIM, Calif. – Northwestern wrapped up the North American Cup against top talent in the country in on Monday, highlighted by sophomore Pauline Hamilton's 12th place finish in the epee competition.

Hamilton received national ranking points for her finish after advancing to the round of 16. She won four of her pool bouts and three direct elimination bouts, including a victory over No. 20 seed Rebecca Chimahusky, before falling to No. 5 seed Courtney Hurley, a 2012 Olympic medalist and multiple-time Olympian.

Senior Katie Van Riper also earned national ranking points after finishing in the top 64. Van Riper won three pool bouts to earn a No. 69 seed and defeated fellow Wildcat Anya Harkness in the first round of the main draw by a narrow 15-14 score, before also being downed by Hurley.

"The NAC provided valuable experience for our team," head coach Zach Moss said of the competition as a whole. "We had a couple of solid finishes and got some high-level competition to prepare us for the start of the collegiate season."

Ella Lombard, Adelle Berdichevsky, and Marta Amador Molina all advanced to the main draw after fencing through the first day of competition. All three received a bye from the first round of pools into the second round of pools, with Berdichevsky going 5-1 and Lombard going 4-2 in the first pool stage.

Sarah Filby and Yvonne Chart also competed this past weekend at a World Cup foil event in Cancun, Mexico, representing Canada and Great Britain, respectively. Each fencer won two pool bouts before falling in their first round elimination bout, and both received one international ranking point.

The NAC marks the end of the individual portion of the Wildcats' season, and they will now fence as a team starting with the Elite Invitational hosted by Ohio State on Nov. 4-5.
