Northwestern Continues Action at ITA Midwest Regionals

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Northwestern advanced two teams to the doubles quarterfinals and four individuals to the singles round of 16 Saturday at the ITA Midwest Regionals hosted by the University of Michigan.

In doubles play, the fourth-seeded team of Erin Larner and Maddie Lipp defeated Michigan State's Habiba Shaker and Sara Kuuttila, 8-6, while 5-8 seed Alex Chatt and Lee Or topped Michigan's Chiarra Lommer and Mira Ruder-Hook, 8-4.

In singles action, Larner, Inci Ogut, Lee Or and Rheeya Doshi all advanced. After receiving an opening-round bye, third-seeded Larner topped Notre Dame's Zoe Spence 6-1, 7-5. Or also received a bye before defeating Wisconsin's Sara Castellano 7-5, 6-2. Doshi won a pair matches, topping DePaul's Alina Kuzmenkova 6-3, 6-1 and Kuuttila 6-3, 6-3. Ogut had a first-round bye before posting a 7-6, 6-3 win over Wisconsin's Lexi Keberle.

Alex Chatt won a three-set match in her opener before falling in another tough three-set thriller, while Lipp fell in her second-round match.

Action continues Sunday with the doubles quarterfinals and semifinals as well as the singles round of 16.
