EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern's women's tennis team plays its third consecutive home match to open its dual match season Saturday when the Wildcats take on Harvard at Combe Tennis Center. The match gets underway at 11 a.m.
Northwestern (2-0) rolled to a pair of season-opening wins last Saturday, blanking both Akron and Chicago State by 7-0 scores. The Wildcats won each of their doubles matches in the two contests and dropped only one set in singles.
Northwestern's lineup features three doubles teams that are ranked in the top 25 in the nation in the first ITA rankings of the season. The Wildcats are paced by the duo of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp who start the dual match season ranked No. 6. The pairing earned their first invitation to the NCAA Doubles Championship last season. Also earning a national ranking to start the campaign is the team of Rheeya Doshi and Jillian Rooney who come in at No. 23 while the duo of Erin Larner and Lee Or are right behind at No. 24. On the singles side, Lipp has earned a ranking of No. 104.
As a team, Northwestern is just outside the ITA top-25 rankings as it is the only team listed as also receiving votes.
Harvard is opening its dual match season today. The Crimson posted a 12-11 record a year ago. Harvard's roster features seven freshmen, three sophomores, one junior and one senior. In singles, Alexis Milunovich is ranked No. 111. Freshman Angelina Ye is an Illinois native, hailing from Sycamore.
