EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern fencing is back and ready to go on the heels of a 2015-16 season that saw it win the Midwest Conference championship and place in the top-10 at the NCAA championships for the 17th consecutive year.

The Wildcats, who finished last season ranked No. 7 in the country by CollegeFencing360, kick off the 2016-17 campaign by hosting the annual Remenyik Open. Due to ongoing construction at the Henry Crown Sports Pavilion, the event will be held in Libertyville, Ill. at the Libertyville Sports and Fitness Complex (1950 N. Highway 45, Libertyville).

Northwestern is returning 23 fencers from last year's team and will be a fairly veteran group with 18 upperclassmen, including five (Julia Abelsky, Mandeep Bhinder, Stephanie Chan, Alisha Gomez-Shah and Cindy Oh) who have won more than 100 career bouts.

The Remenyik will cover the course of two days (Saturday, Oct. 1 and Sunday, Oct. 2) and will go from roughly 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

Chicago's Big Ten Team will have fencers in each of the senior and junior women's weapons competitions.
