EVANSTON, Ill. — Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Robbie White has been named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
White made the first start of his career on Sunday, Sept. 18, at No. 3 Indiana and went on to shut out the Hoosiers by racking up a career-high six saves in the 0-0, double-overtime draw. The Glen Ellyn, Ill., native faced 28 shots in the contest and turned away all six that were put on net for the first clean sheet of his career.
Before playing all 110 minutes of Sunday's game, White had only appeared in a reserve capacity for the 'Cats, totaling 3:47 of action at Marquette (Sept. 5) earlier this season.
White sustained a lower extremity injury in Sunday's contest and is expected to miss eight to ten weeks.
Former #B1GCats goalie Zak Allen was the last Northwestern student-athlete to earn Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors. Allen received the recognition on Oct. 27, 2015.
Northwestern will begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 21, when it hosts local-foe DePaul at Martin Stadium. Kick is set for 7 p.m. CT.
