ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Defending champion Sarah Cho owns a share of seventh-place after pacing Northwestern on day one of the 38th Annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational at the University of New Mexico Championship Course. The Wildcats share fifth on the team leaderboard after a Monday of competition that was scheduled for 36-holes but cut short due to weather late in the afternoon.

The field will resume Round 2 on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. CT/7:30 a.m. MT, with the third and final round immediately following.

Cho opened her 2016-17 season with back-to-back bogeys on Nos. 6 and 7 (shotgun start) but quickly settled in with three straight pars and then birdies on Nos. 11, 13 and 16. The reigning McGuire champion finished with a true flourish, with birdies on Nos. 3, 4 and 5 to wrap up the first round at 3-under. After starting Round 2 on No. 6 as well, the San Diego native played 13 holes at even par before weather intervened to cut the round short. She is tied for seventh at 3-under for the tournament.

Senior Kacie Komoto birdied two of her first three holes, and three of her last seven in Round 1 to fire a 1-under 71, and followed that up with an even par effort over the first 14 holes of Round 2. She is tied for 16th at 1-under for the tournament.

The fifteen teams jockeying for position on the leaderboard with the Wildcats this week are: Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Colorado, Denver, Iowa State, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, San Diego State, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UNLV, Washington State.

While the McGuire always features strong competition, this year's exceptionally deep and talented field is due in part to the UNM Championship Course being slated to host a 2017 NCAA Golf Championships Regional next spring.

Northwestern is the two-time defending Big Ten champion, and has captured three of the last four Conference crowns. Head coach Emily Fletcher has been honored in four of the last six seasons as Big Ten Coach of the Year, and the Wildcats have posted the program's best-ever finish at the NCAA Championships each of the last four years.
