Northwestern's lineup for the season-opening event includes:

  • Junior Hannah Kim, the two-time Big Ten Player of the Year. The Chula Vista, California, native posted the best single-season scoring average (71.94) in Wildcats history last year, and owns the best career scoring mark (73.15). Last season became the first WGCA First Team All-American in women's program history, and the first Northwestern golfer (male or female) to earn First Team All-America honors since former world No. 1 Luke Donald. She was also recognized as a Second Team All-American by Golfweek.
  • Sophomore Stephanie Lau, the 2016 Big Ten Freshman of the Year. A native of Fullerton, California, Lau's rookie season featured the second-best single-season scoring mark (72.13) in Northwestern history and a team-high nine Top-10 finishes. Lau received Second Team All-America laurels from the WGCA, and Third Team recognition from Golfweek
  • Senior Kacie Komoto, a member of the 2016 All-Big Ten First Team and the fifth Wildcat with three All-Big Ten honors in  career. The Honolulu, native owns the second-best career scoring average in program history, and has also been one of Northwestern's busiest competitors during the summer. Komoto advanced through Stage I of LPGA Qualifying last weekend, and previously advanced to the match play portion of both the 2016 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship and the 114th North & South Championship.
  • Junior Sarah Cho, the reigning Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational champion. The San Diego native birdied two of her final three holes to secure the individual crown last September in Albuquerque, and posted the fifth-best single-season scoring mark in Wildcats history last season while earning a First Team All-Big Ten nod.
  • Sophomore Monica Matsubara, who won a three-hole playoff to capture the 2016 California Women's State Championship at Ojai Valley Golf Club this summer. Matsubara fired a 2-over 215 (71-69-75) through 54 holes, tied with 2016 Stanford NCAA Regional medalist and three-time First Team All-Big West honoree Andrea Wong, and three shots better than their closest competition. She did some of her most impressive work on the course's longest offerings, playing Ojai Valley's four Par-5 holes at 6-under during the tournament.
  • Sophomore Janet Mao, who will compete as an individual while her teammates score in the 5-count-4 tournament format. Mao earned Second Team All-Big Ten recognition in her rookie campaign, and picked up the first win of her college career with medalist honors at the 2016 Shoal Creek NCAA Regional. The Johns Creek, Georgia, native turned in the sixth-lowest single-season scoring average (73.92) in program history last year in her debut, and this summer advanced to the match play portion of the 2016 United States Women's Amateur Championship.

The Wildcats were runners-up among 18 teams at the 2015 Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational with a 10-under 866.

The fifteen teams jockeying for position on the leaderboard with the Wildcats this week are: Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Colorado, Denver, Iowa State, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, San Diego State, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UNLV, Washington State.

While the McGuire always features strong competition, this year's exceptionally deep and talented field is due in part to the UNM Championship Course being slated to host a 2017 NCAA Golf Championships Regional next spring.

Northwestern is the two-time defending Big Ten champion, and has captured three of the last four Conference crowns. Head coach Emily Fletcher has been honored in four of the last six seasons as Big Ten Coach of the Year, and the Wildcats have posted the program's best-ever finish at the NCAA Championships in each of the last four years..
