Northwestern Trio Named Big Ten Players to Watch

EVANSTON, Ill. -- A trio of Wildcats represent Northwestern on the Big Ten Field Hockey Players to Watch for 2016 announced by the Conference office on Monday. Seniors Isabel Flens and Dominique Masters as well as junior Elena Curley are the NU individuals named to the list.
Flens, at native of Hattem, The Netherlands, was a second-team All-Big Ten and second-team NFHCA All-West Region selection a year ago. During the 2015 campaign, she ranked second on the team and third in the Big Ten with 16 goals and 39 points. The forward enters her senior season with 34 career goals and 86 points. She has 10 career game-winning goals to her credit, including four last season. She also has shined in the classroom, twice being recognized as an Academic All-Big Ten honoree while being recognized as a Big Ten Distinguised Scholar for 2015-16.
A native of Canterbury, United Kingdom, Masters scored a team-leading 17 goals in 2015 to help her earn second-team NFHCA All-West Region recognition. The goal tally ranked her second in the Big Ten in the category as did her 41 points. Masters, who was a first-team All-West Region pick as a sophomore, is Northwestern's active leader with 40 goals, 99 points and 11 game-winning goals.
Curley joins Northwestern this season after playing her first two years collegiately at Ohio University. The Louisville, Kentucky, native appeared in 34 matches over the last two seasons as a midfielder. Last season, she posted five goals and four assists for 14 points for the Bobcats. Two of her goals were game-winners.
Northwestern opens up its 2016 season at 1 p.m. Central time Friday when it takes on Boston University in Durham, New Hampshire.
