Lau was 1-over on Sunday after 13 holes, but then birdied the Par-3 No. 14, the Par-4 No. 15 and the Par-3 No. 16 to card the second-lowest score in the field on Sunday, a 2-under 70.
The Fullerton, California, native was joined on the team by Sarah Burnham, a rising junior at Michigan State, and Gabby Barker, a rising junior at Texas Tech. The United States finished in third behind the Czech Republic and Chinese Taipei.
This is the second consecutive summer where a Wildcats student-athlete has had the opportunity to represent the United States in international competition. Hannah Kim represented the U.S. last year at the 2015 World University Games in Korea.
Lau's dazzling rookie season in 2015-16 included being named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, and All-America honors from both the WGCA and Golfweek. She was the Wildcats top finisher at both the Big Ten Championships, where her putt on No.18 secured Northwestern's second straight title, and at the 2016 NCAA Championships.
