BELMONT, Mich. – Wildcats sophomore Hannah Kim will tee it up against the best in the world on Thursday in Round 1 of the 2016 Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give at Blythefield Country Club (Par-71; 6,451 yards). Kim earned a sponsor's exemption to compete in the event, and will be the only amateur in the field this week.

The third-year event has drawn its strongest field to-date, including ten of the eleven players who have won on Tour this season. The field will consist of 10 of the Top 10 and 43 of the Top 50 on the 2016 Money List. Included are world No. 1 Lydia Ko, 2015 Meijer LPGA Classic Champion Lexi Thompson and 2014 Champion Mirim Lee. Other notables include recent major winner Brooke Henderson, Morgan Pressel, Paula Creamer, Gerina Piller, Brittany Lincicome, Jessica Korda, Michelle Wie, Cristie Kerr and Ariya Jutanugarn.
Kim will tee off at 7:48 a.m. ET on Hole No.10 paired with Wie, the 2014 U.S. Women's Open champion, and Jaye Marie Green.
In just two years, Kim has built one of the most accomplished resumes in the history of Northwestern golf. Last month she became the first WGCA First Team All-American in women's program history, and the first Northwestern golfer (male or female) to earn First Team All-America honors since former world No. 1 Luke Donald. She has helped lead the Wildcats to back-to-back Big Ten titles, and a program-best ninth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Championships.
In May, Kim was honored as the Big Ten Player of the Year for the second straight season. She owns two of the Top-7 single-season scoring averages in program history, including the best-ever this year, as well as the lowest career scoring average in the Northwestern women's golf record book.
Earlier this spring the Chula Vista, California, native broke the Wildcats tournament scoring record with a blistering 199 to win the Hurricane Invitational, shaving seven strokes off the previous record. Kim recorded five Top-10 finishes, and nine in the Top-20, in ten starts during the 2015-16 regular-season, and earned Academic All-Big Ten distinction in her first year of eligibility.
Kim is the second straight Wildcats golfer to compete in the Meijer LPGA Classic, following teammate Kaitlin Park in 2015.
Coverage of Thursday's first round will be televised on Golf Channel beginning at 1:30 p.m. CT.
