Northwestern (12-34, 4-16 B1G) threw six different pitchers at the Boilermakers' (7-36, 2-18 B1G) lineup. Josh Davis (1-3) earned the first victory of his Northwestern career after pitching the eighth inning, while freshman Tyler Lass earned his first-career save pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Richard Fordon and Pete Hofmanalso tossed innings of relief.

Purdue's Tanner Andrews (1-5) received the loss in the contest. He went 3.0 innings, allowing three runs, none of which were earned and struck out two. Matt Frawley started the contest and tossed the first five innings, aloowing four runs on four hits and struck out four.

Four different players batted in runs for the Wildcats, including Jack Dunn, Zach Jones, Jack Claeys (2) and Willie Bourbon. Bourbon was the only NU player to record multiple hits.

After scoreless first two innings, Purdue broke open the scoring on passed ball by Claeys and an RBI single by Nick Dalesandro to take a 2-0 lead.

Northwestern would answer in the bottom half of the frame with Dunn driving home Jake Schieber from third on an RBI single to right field and Jones plating Ben Dickey in the next at-bat on a fielder's choice.

Dalesandro gave Purdue a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single down the right field line.

The Wildcats would respond in the bottom of the sixth with Claeys taking a pitch the other way down the right field line to Hopfner and Jones, giving Northwestern its first lead of the contest, 4-3.

After Purdue tied the contest, 4-4, in the top of the seventh, Northwestern scored three runs on two hits and took advantage of three Purdue errors to go-ahead, 7-4.

Jones led the inning off with a double to right center. The hit was the 200th of his career.

Northwestern will go for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon when RHP Tommy Bordignon and the #B1GCats play Purdue at 1 p.m. CT.
