Wildcats Falter in Game One of Doubleheader

The loss drops Northwestern to 13-36 for the season, while Cal advances to 27-18.
'Cats starter Joe Schindler (1-2) threw a strong 4.1 innings. After allowing one run in the first, Schindler was able to hold Cal hitless in the second and third, before allowing an unearned run in the fourth. Schindler would finish having allowed three earned runs on four hits, striking out one.
Cal's starter Tanner Dodson (3-4) threw 5.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and six walks.
Northwestern threatened in the opening innings, putting runners on board in each of the first four innings. The Wildcats left 11 runners on base in the contest.
Cal showed their power in the middle innings, putting up three runs in the fifth, sixth and eighth innings, while also plating four in the top of the seventh.
Northwestern got onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. With one away, Connor Lind, Jack Claeys, and Dickey all reached base, before Jake Schieber walked to score one. Freschet then singled, to score another, before Zach Jones walked in the third run of the inning.
Jake Stolley and Cooper Weatherbee both made relief appearances.
The 'Cats finish the double-header at 2:40 pm this afternoon, before finishing their regular season home schedule with one last matchup with Cal on Monday, May 16 at 3 p.m. CT.
