Northwestern's Pitching Staff Leads Way to 5-1 Win Over Bradley

4/13/2016 6:43:00 PM | Baseball

Evanston, Ill. – Northwestern used nine different pitchers to keep Bradley at bay in a 5-1 non-conference victory on Wednesday afternoon at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park.

Northwestern (9-24, 2-7 B1G) started senior Jake Stolley, before turning the reins over to Justin Yoss in the second inning. Yoss (1-1) allowed one hit and tallied a strike out in the second inning en route to his first victory of the season.

Bradley (15-11) faced seven Northwestern pitchers over the next seven innings, including Josh Davis and Joe Schindler, who each rung up two batters in their respective innings of work.

Ben Olson (1-3) started for the Braves and threw 3.0 innings, allowing five hits and a pair of runs. He was credited with the loss. Spencer Gaa led the way for Bradley on the offensive side with a pair of hits.

At the plate, the Wildcats had a trio of players tally multiple hits. Connor Lind, Jack Claeys and Willie Bourbon all recorded two knocks, while Jake Schieber and Ben Dickey carried the #B1GCats' run production with two RBIs apiece.

The Wildcats finished the day with 10 hits. This marks the 18th time this season that the club has posted 10-or-more hits in a game.

Northwestern scored two runs in the bottom half of the second when Bourbon singled home Claeys and Dickey brought home Lind two batters later with a hard hit ball to the shortstop.

Zeros populated the scoreboard for the next three innings until the Wildcats put runners on second and third for Schieber in the bottom of the sixth. With two away, the Wheaton, Illinois, native drove pitch to the left field wall for a two-RBI triple. Dickey singled home Schieber in the next at-bat to give Northwestern a 5-0 lead.

Bradley scored its lone run of the game on a wild pitch in the top of the eighth inning.

Danny Katz, Tyler Lass, Mack Rosman, Pete Hofman and Tommy Bordignon all threw an inning of relief for Northwestern.

The Wildcats' pitching staff only allowed six hits on the afternoon and struck out 10 batters.

Northwestern will return to action on Friday, April 15, when it opens up a three-game series against Penn State at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park. First pitch on Friday is set for 3 p.m. CT.
