
'Cats Finish Series at Cincinnati, Head to Northern Kentucky

CINCINNATI, Ohio — Northwestern suffered a 10-3 setback in the series finale versus Cincinnati at Marge Shott Stadium Monday afternoon.
Northwestern (5-14) tallied 10 hits in the contest, which included three base hits from freshman shortstop Jack Dunn and two knocks apiece from both Matt Hopfner and JR Reimer.
Dunn and Hopfner were responsible for Northwestern's first two RBIs of the game. The 'Cats final run came on a balk call that brought home Grant Peikert.
Cincinnati (9-11) was led by shortstop Manny Rodriguez, who tallied four hits and an RBI from the leadoff spot. Six additional Bearcats recorded multi-hit performances.
David Orndorff (2-1) was the game's winning pitcher of record. The sophomore pitched six innings, giving up six hits and one earned run.
Sophomore Dan Kubiuk (0-1) was credited with the loss for Northwestern after throwing 2.0 innings and allowing four runs. Danny Katz pitched two innings of relief, while Justin Yoss, Richard Fordon, Mack Rosman and Tyler Lass all made appearances from the bullpen.
Northwestern will cross the Ohio River and head to Northern Kentucky for a mid-week match up against the Norse. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT. Northwestern beat Northern Kentucky, 4-3, during the 2013 season. It's the only time that the two programs have met.
