WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — After a pair of strong performances from the platform and the 1-meter springboard at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center, freshman Olivia Rosendahl punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships.
The NCAA Championships take place in Atlanta from March 16-19. On Thursday, March 17, Rosendahl will be participating in the 1-meter trials at 11:30 a.m. CT. The finals session will take place the next day in the evening. She will dive from the platform during the trials on Saturday, March 19, at 11:15 a.m. CT, and the finals will be on Sunday.
Rosendahl has been a strong performer the entire season. At the Big Ten Championships, she took home a silver medal from the platform and also notched a fourth-place finish from the 3-meter springboard. She was named to the All-Big Ten second team after a regular season in which she took home first place from the 3-meter springboard in every competition. Rosendahl also received four Freshman of the Week honors and NU's first Diver of the Week nod since 2011.
She also seeks to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. She is one of a handful of American divers who have qualified for the Olympic Trials in all four of the diving competitions.
Rosendahl will be Northwestern's lone representative at the NCAA Championships while also making the Wildcats' 25th historical appearance. She seeks to become the first-ever Northwestern individual champion at the Championships.
Freshman Eryn Scannell also participated in the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, boasting an appearance in the finals session of the platform diving competition. She just narrowly missed a second-dive opportunity with her 19th-place finish in the preliminary session from the 3-meter board.
"I was proud that I was able to come back and perform well on platform," Rosendahl said. "I was happy that I was able to perform well today. I'm excited for NCAAs next week, and excited to see how my season ends."
The Los Angeles native dazzled with a first-place finish in Saturday's platform competition, registering a score of 321.55 in the preliminary session and 325.80 in the final. On Thursday, she finished in 12th place from the 1-meter board, featuring a 286.10-point performance in the final. The NCAA Championships take place in Atlanta from March 16-19.
