EVANSTON, Ill. – For the second time in three days, the Northwestern women's tennis team had the match decided by the final contest on the courts. For the second time in three days, the Wildcats pulled out a hard-fought victory as NU took down No. 36 Georgia Tech 4-3 at Combe Tennis Center.

Coming off a 4-3 win at Illinois on Friday in which Alicia Barnett won the decisive match in a third-set tiebreak, Northwestern had another matchup go down to the wire.

The Wildcats surged in front by earning a hard-fought doubles point. The NU duo of Manon Peri and Lee Or handled Megan Kurey and Alexa Anton-Ohlmeyer at No. 3, 6-3. In a battle of ranked teams at No. 1, No. 27 Kendal Woodard and Paige Hourigan defeated the Wildcats' 43-ranked team of Barnett and Erin Larner, 6-4, leaving the doubles point to be decided by the match at No. 2.

The 13th-ranked team of Maddie Lipp and Alex Chatt was pushed to the limit by Rasheeda McAdoo and Johnnise Renaud, but the Northwestern team pulled it out in a tiebreaker, winning 7-6 (2) to put the Wildcats up 1-0 in the match.

Georgia Tech put itself in position for a comeback by winning the first set in four of the six singles matches. The Yellow Jackets got their first point on the board when Peri was forced to retire at No. 6.

However, moments later, Chatt finished off Kendal Woodard 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 before Larner pulled off an upset victory over 37th-ranked Renaud at No. 1 by the same score, putting Northwestern up 3-1 in the match.

Georgia Tech got a point back with a 6-2, 6-3 victory from Paige Hourigan, leaving the match to be decided by a pair of contests headed to a third set at Nos. 3 and 5.

Both Barnett (No. 3) and Jillian Rooney (No. 5) had to battle back from a set down to force a decisive set. Rasheeda McAdoo, who is ranked 74th, was able to rally back for a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win at No. 3, leaving the match to be determined by the result at No. 5.

Rooney's serve was broken at 4-4, but she battled to break right back to tie the final set 5-5. After holding serve, Rooney managed to break Alexis Prokopuik again to earn the victory for the Wildcats.

Northwestern returns to action at 11:30 a.m. Central time Friday when it travels to Rutgers.
