Wildcats Roll Past Scarlet Knights, 7-0

EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. -- No. 42 Northwestern had no trouble with Rutgers on Friday afternoon, rolling past the Scarlet Knights 7-0 at East Brunswick Racquet Club.
The Wildcats dominated the match as five of the six singles wins were in straight sets. NU got the ball rolling in doubles play. The 43rd-ranked duo of Alicia Barnett and Erin Larner was victorious at the No. 1 spot as the pairing rolled to a 6-3 win over Gina Li and Mariam Zein. Meanwhile, at No. 2, Alex Chatt and Jillian Rooney teamed up to take down Ksenija Tihomirova and Chloe Lee by the same score to give Northwestern the doubles point.
Everyone at the Nos. 2 through 6 singles spots recorded convincing two-set wins for the 'Cats. Brooke Rischbieth had the most dominant win of the day at No. 6 as she surrendered only two games to Lee Levy, winning 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2, Barnett rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 win over Chloe Lee while Chatt took care of Tihomirova 6-4, 6-3.
Rooney notched a 6-4, 6-0 win over Zein at No. 3, while Lee Or handled Lindsey Kayati 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5. In the lone match of the day to go more than two sets, Larner rallied back from dropping the first set to defeat Li in a decisive superbreaker, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) to help Northwestern earn the sweep.
The Wildcats return to action at 11 a.m. Central time Sunday when they take on Maryland at College Park.
