Wildcats Match Program-Best 12-1 Start

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Northwestern matched the best start in school history, moving to 12-1 with a dominant showing at Harvard on Sunday afternoon.
 
The 15th-ranked Wildcats beat No. 32 Harvard, 7-0, at the Murr Center to tie the 1988-89 team at 12-1 to begin a season.
 
The win was also the ninth in a row for Chicago's Big Ten Team.
 
Northwestern won the doubles point for the 11th time this season, doing so with relative ease at Nos. 2 and 3. Mihir Kumar and Alp Horoz got things started with a 6-2 win at No. 3 and were followed by a 6-3 win at No. 2 by Konrad Zieba and Sam Shropshire. That duo improved to 8-1 this season.
 
Fedor Baev and Strong Kirchheimer held a commanding 5-3 lead at No. 1, but their match went unfinished when the Wildcats clinched the point.
 
Chicago's Big Ten Team swept through singles with four of six wins coming in straight sets.
 
No. 73 Shropshire picked up his 10th win of the season with a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 2. Eighth-ranked Zieba followed with his sixth straight win, a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1 over Nicky Hu. Zieba is 15-4 overall and 8-2 in duals.
 
Baev clinched the match for Northwestern with a 7-6, 6-2 win at No. 4. True freshman Ben Vandixhorn won in straight sets at No. 6, and 107th-ranked Kirchheimer at No. 3 and Horoz at No. 5 finished off the day with three-set wins.
 
The 7-0 decision was Northwestern's fourth shutout of the season. Each of the previous three stopped at 4-0.
 
The Wildcats will go for their 10th consecutive win on Saturday, March 12 at noon when No. 11 Illinois comes to Evanston. Northwestern will attempt to beat the Illini for the first time since 1997.
