EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern will travel to Columbus, Ohio over the weekend to kick off its postseason at the two-day Midwest Fencing Conference Championships hosted by Ohio State.

The Wildcats, ranked No. 5 in the CollegeFencing360.com coaches' poll, are coming off an extremely successful 39-6 dual season, highlighted by eight wins over top-ten ranked opponents, including No. 3 Princeton and No. 1 Columbia. The 'Cats have won at least 30 matches in every season since the 2004-05 campaign.

NU ended its regular season with a flourish, sweeping the Penn Duals with five wins. The team earned two big victories when it knocked off No. 8 Penn and No. 10 Temple.

Northwestern has consistently performed well at the Midwest Fencing Conference Championships under head coach Laurie Schiller, who has guided the program to top-three finishes every year since 1994. He was won the MFC Championship three times, the last of which came in 2001.

The Wildcats have won 12 weapons titles since 1996, with the most recent coming last year when the epee group defeated Ohio State in the final round. This season, the epee group is a dominant 42-3 in dual meets.

Northwestern and sixth-ranked Ohio State remain the top two teams in the Midwest Fencing Conference. The two squads have faced off twice this season in the Elite Cup Duals and NU Duals, with the 'Cats eking out 14-13 victories both times behind strong performances form the epee and sabre groups.

In a year where Laurie Schiller picked up his 1,250th career win, the 'Cats will chase history in the postseason. To follow along during the event, visit the tournament central page.
