ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Capping off her prolific freshman campaign, Olivia Rosendahl (Los Angeles, Calif./Immaculate Heart) was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team after the conclusion of the Big Ten Championships Saturday.
Rosendahl earned a silver medal in the platform diving competition in the final day of the Championships. She also took home a fourth-place finish from the 3-meter springboard in the third day of competition.
"I was very excited about getting second on platform, because that is my best event and as we do not have a tower at home, it was really rewarding to see that I can still perform well with a minimal amount of tower practice," she said. "In addition, I was super excited to be the only freshman in two of the finals, and to have made the final on all three boards."
This year, the freshman has surpassed NCAA Zone Diving Standards in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform competitions. Over the course of the season, she won Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors four times and the Diver of the Week honor once. In regular season competition, Rosendahl never finished outside of first place from the 3-meter springboard or the platform.
In a home meet versus Iowa in January, Rosendahl broke the Norris Aquatics Center pool record from the 3-meter springboard, scoring 317.63 points. The record had previously stood for 15 years.
The Los Angeles native also seeks to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics. She is only one of four American divers to qualify for the U.S. Olympic Trials in all four events.
Also announced after the Championships, Northwestern senior Julia Pratt (Vincennes, Ind./Vincennes Rivet) was announced as the school's Big Ten Sportsmanship Honoree.
Rosendahl - as well as teammate Eryn Scannell (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc Community) - have qualifed to dive at NCAA Zones on March 10-12 in West Lafayette, Indiana. The NCAA Championships take place from March 17-19 in Atlanta.
