Wildcats Ready for USA Junior Olympic Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. — The Wildcats will send seven fencers to compete in the USA Junior Olympic Championships in Cleveland this weekend.
Ella Lombard and Katie Van Riper will fence in the épée weapons group, while Sharon Chen, Stefanie Kahookele, Michelle Lee and Lucia Procopio will fence in foil. Maddy Curzon will also fence in the sabre group.
All seven fencers previously competed at the North American Cup in January and fenced in both the junior and senior version of their weapon groups.
Van Riper went 9-0 at the most recent NU Duals while Lombard went 10-2. They are a combined 54-17 this year and have been part of an outstanding épée group that has gone 37-3 in dual meets.
Chen, Kahookele, Lee and Procopio have combined to go 50-24 this season and the foil group has notched an impressive 28-9 record in dual meets. Procopio is coming off of a stellar 8-0 weekend at the last NU Duals.
Maddy Curzon has fenced in more matches than anyone else in the sabre group despite only being a freshman, and has a 53-19 record for the year. She went 25-11 at the last NU Duals.
