EVANSTON, Illinois – Julia Tournant has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Northwestern University and compete for the Wildcats women's golf team, head coach Emily Fletcher announced on Wednesday. She will enroll in the fall of 2017.
"I am thrilled to welcome Julia to our Wildcat Golf family," said Fletcher, the reigning Big Ten Coach of the Year. "Her enthusiasm for all things Northwestern has been evident from the outset. She is a tremendous fit academically and athletically, and I am excited to see the contributions she will make to our program on and off the course. We believe Julia's best golf is ahead of her and are eager to have her join us in Evanston next fall."
A native of Paris, France, Tournant was a three-time winner this season on the French Federation Grand Prix Tour, earning victories in the Trophee des Regions, Classic du Prieure and Grand Prix d'Amiens in 2016, and was named to the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Honor Roll in recognition of her academic achievement. She is also a two-time qualifier for the match play portion of the British Girl's Amateur, and was the runner-up at the 2016 AJGA Junior at The Ranch.
Tournant, the No. 6 ranked player in France in the Class of 2017, is expected to join a Wildcats team laden with experience. Northwestern is the two-time defending Big Ten women's golf champion, and last season earned the best finish in program history at the NCAA Championships.
The Wildcats finished the fall season ranked No. 16 in the nation, and will be in action next at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, California, in February.
