FINAL RESULTS

EVANSTON, Ill. —
Freshman Valerie Gruest Slowing broke the Northwestern school and Norris Aquatics Center pool records in the 1,000 free and 1,650 free to spark another strong performance by the women's swimming and diving program Sunday afternoon.

The Wildcats won the TYR Invitational with a team score of 1,032 as five different Wildcats posted NCAA 'B' cut times in the final day of the competition.

With a pool and school record in the 500 free already in hand from Friday's finals, Slowing won the 1,650 free in a school and pool record time of 16:01.58. Her 1,000 split time of 9:42.71 also broke a 10-year pool record and marked the fastest time in program history.

Slowing finished the weekend with four NCAA 'B' cuts, finishing second in the 200 fly later in the evening with a B cut time of 1:59.27. Senior Ellen Stello picked up the win in the 200 fly, finishing just ahead of Slowing in another 'B' cut time of 1:59.07.

Senior Melissa Postoll continued her strong performance with her fourth NCAA 'B' cut of the weekend, finishing second in the 200 back in 1:56.64. Classmate Lacey Locke finished third in the 200 back with a season-best time of 1:59.56. Postoll also posted 'B' cuts in the 100 back, 200 IM and 400 IM over the weekend.

Senior Annika Winsnes returned to the pool for the first time this season over the weekend and finished first in the 100 free with a 'B' cut time of 49.92.

Northwestern continued to rack up the first-place finishes with a strong performance by sophomore Peyton Greenberg in the 200 breaststroke. Greenberg picked up a 'B' cut time of her own and pulled away from the pack, winning the event by over two seconds with a time of 2:12.58. The time was the fastest of Greenberg's career and the third-fastest mark in program history.

The 'Cats capped the evening with another first-place finish as the relay team of Winsnes, junior Mary Warren, freshman Malorie Han and Postol claimed the 400 free relay in a season-best time of 3:20.49. The time marked the ninth fastest in program history.

NU's 'B' team of freshman Krystal Lara, senior Lacey Smith, freshman Nicole Aart and Locke finished third in the 400 free relay in 3:26.86.

Chicago's Big Ten Team was aided by a strong performance in the platform competition with five Wildcat divers finishing in the top seven earlier in the day. Sophomore Olivia Rosendahl won the event with a score of 262.15 while fellow sophomore Eryn Scannell finished second with a 216.70. Monique Demaisip finished fourth, Mashal Hasham sixth and Janicia Ng tied for seventh.

The Wildcats will take the next month and a half off from competition to train before returning to the pool on Jan. 14 versus Notre Dame.
