FEATURE: Women's Soccer Has Unprecedented Opportunity to Win Big Ten Title

Fans can purchase tickets here or at the door on Wednesday one hour before kick off.

The 'Cats enter the contest with a 13-1-3 mark for the season, including a 6-1-3 record in conference play. Last Saturday, Northwestern held No. 11 Minnesota to a scoreless draw, notching a program-record 13th shutout of the season in the process. Chicago's Big Ten Team sits tied with Minnesota and Penn State atop the conference standings at 21 points apiece. A win will clinch a share of the title, and the Wildcats could take it outright if both the Gophers and Nittany Lions fail to win. NU has beaten Illinois in each of the last two meetings, winning 2-0 in both 2015 and 2014.

SCOUTING ILLINOIS
  • Illinois boasts a balanced offense, with six players that have each recorded at least five points on the season.
  • Claire Wheatley and Michelle Denley have recorded three shutouts each in goal for the Illini this season.
  • Defender Hope D'Addario leads the team with five assists on the year.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Junior goalkeeper Lauren Clem has been extremely reliable in goal for the Wildcats this year. She has played every minute of the season and recorded 13 shutouts. Northwestern's average of .302 goals against leads the NCAA, and Clem ranks first in the conference in save percentage.

BALANCED ATTACK
Fifteen Wildcats have tallied goals so far this season. Sophomore Brenna Lovera leads the way with six, and junior Kassidy Gorman has recorded four. Six Northwestern players have at least four points on the year.

WHAT THE 'CATS ARE SAYING
"Each year we have set a new goal and each year we have achieved it. We are constantly growing as a team and building off of the success from the year before, which is why having the opportunity to compete for a Big Ten regular-season title is so rewarding."
- Lauren Clem, junior

"If you would have told me three years ago that we would be competing for a Big Ten title, I would probably not have believed you. To be part of the transformation this team has gone through is something I would not trade for anything. I believe in the dreams this team has and I can not wait to play next to my teammates on Wendesday for a Championship I never thought was possible my freshman year."
- Rachel Zampa, senior

"We have worked so hard to get where we are now and are so happy to be fighting for a chance at the Big Ten title."
- Kayla Sharples, sophomore

"I am so proud of the way we have developed over the past four years. I have seen a shift in mentality that has brought a new confidence and culture to our team. This has stemmed from the coaches and the level of success they demand from us as well as the effort and energy that my teammates are willing to give each and every day."
- Kaitlin Moore, senior

"Being able to compete for the Big Ten regular-season title is one of the most exciting opportunities of my life. Our team has worked so hard for this over the years and it's an amazing feeling to be a part of something so monumental for our program."
- Kassidy Gorman, junior
