'Cats Finish Day One of Big Ten Triple Dual

EVANSTON, Ill. — Despite a pair of first-place finishes on Friday, the Wildcats trail both Minnesota and Purdue after the first day of a triple dual at the Norris Aquatics Center. Minnesota leads NU 127-59, and Purdue leads the 'Cats 129-57.
DAY ONE RESULTS (PDF)
Fresh off winning the TeamUnify/CollegeSwimmer.com Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award, Lacey Locke (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) took a first place finish in the 100 back (55.18). She was more than two-tenths of a second faster than the next closest competitor.
The #B1GCats had another first-place finish, this time in the 50 free. Mary Warren (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) swam a first-place time of 23.13. The sophomore has yet to finish outside of first place in the event this season. Annika Winsnes (Singapore/United World College) finished in third place (23.65).
In the 200 fly, Emily Launer (DeKalb, Ill./Rosary) notched a third-place finish with her season-best time of 2:02.76, despite being primarily a distance free swimmer. Right behind her was Maddy Sims (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North), who swam a fifth-place time of 2:03.79.
On the boards, freshman Eryn Scannell (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc Community) registered a career-high 272.60 points from the 3-meter springboard. The score is also the second-best for the Wildcats in the 3-meter event this season.
Winsnes came in fourth in the 200 free, finishing in 1:50.45. Launer was the next-closest 'Cat, swimming the event in 1:52.40.
In the 200 medley relay, the Wildcats finished in fourth place, coming in at 1:43.77. The #B1GCats did better in the 400 free relay, finishing with a third-place time of 3:25.58.
Lauren Abruzzo (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver) led the pack of Wildcats in the 1,000 free, finishing in 10:12.21. Sydney Modeas (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence) and Megan Purdy (Boulder City, Nev./Boulder City) both registered season-best times.
In the 200 IM, Melissa Postoll (Acworth, Ga./Kennesaw Mountain) was the top Wildcat finisher, with her seventh-place time of 2:07.02.
The Big Ten triple dual action continues tomorrow, Jan. 30, at noon.
