2016 NCAA Tournament Bracket
Â
TULSA, Okla. – The NCAA released Tuesday the 64-person field for the 2016 men's tennis singles championship.
Â
Northwestern will be represented by juniors Konrad Zieba, Sam Shropshire and Strong Kirchheimer at the tournament, which begins Wednesday.
Â
Zieba is the 20th ranked player in the country and will open up with a match against No. 48 Or Ram-Harel of Tulsa in the first round. Zieba beat Ram-Harel in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) in the teams' dual match on Jan. 22. The Northwestern junior will look to capitalize on a 21-win season and improve on his 14 wins over ranked opponents.
Â
No. 40-ranked Sam Shropshire will face UC-Davis' Alec Adamson (No. 115) in the first round. Shropshire was also a 20-match winner and a win over Adamson could set up a potential rematch with TCU's Cameron Norrie.
Â
Kirchheimer, ranked No. 57, heads to the NCAA tournament with 30 wins and a 14-match winning streak. He drew No. 35 Quentin Monaghan of Notre Dame for Wednesday's match. Kirchheimer needs two wins to crack the top-10 on the single season wins list at Northwestern.
