EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern has announced the addition of transfer student-athlete Garrett Kidd (Midland, Mich./Herbert Henry Dow H.S.) to its 2015 roster. Kidd joins the Wildcats immediately and will be eligible to compete in the upcoming campaign.
A wide receiver, Kidd spent the past three seasons at the University of Miami, where he became a two-time letterwinner. Since 2012, he appeared in 13 career games on offense, and as a primary special teams contributor. He began his career as a walk-on before eventually earning a scholarship at the end of the 2013 season.
Kidd graduated from Miami in the spring with a Bachelor of Science degree in finance, and he has one season of eligibility remaining at Northwestern. The Midland, Mich., native will study predictive analytics at NU.
In high school, Kidd was a two-time All-Saginaw Valley honoree and he led Dow High School to a district championship. Also an accomplished lacrosse player, Kidd was named his team's most valuable player in 2010.
The Kidd name should ring familiar to Northwestern fans. Garrett's father, John Kidd, was a four-time letterwinner for the Wildcats from 1980-83. He was one of the most decorated punters in program history, as he still holds records for season (45.6, 1982) and career (41.8) punting average. The elder Kidd was a first-team All-American in 1983, and he earned the prestigious Big Ten Medal of Honor in 1984. He went on to play for five teams in the NFL between 1984-1998.
