Wildcats to Host Midnight Madness Event at Trienens Indoor on Aug. 12

EVANSTON, Ill. — In what has grown into one of the program's enduring traditions, Northwestern men's soccer will kick off the 2015 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 14 (Wednesday night/Thursdasy morning) with the Fifth Annual Midnight Madness at Trienens Indoor Turf. To take advantage of getting in gear at the first moment allowed by NCAA rules, head coach Tim Lenahan's side will whistle the start of its first practice at 12:01 a.m. CT.
Admission for the event and parking in the east and wests lots of Ryan Field is complimentary. A partial schedule of activities is below:
12:01-12:30 a.m. - Team warm-up & activities (including team penalty kick contest)
12:30-12:45 a.m. - PK contest with prizes for Northwestern fans
Chicago's Big Ten team is coming off its ninth appearance in the NCAA Tournament over the past 11 seasons. With returning All-Big Ten Selections Joey Calistri and Cole Missimo, as well as 2014 Big Ten All-Freshman Team Selections Sam Forsgren and Elo Ozumba, the Wildcats will seek their 13th-consecutive winning season in 2015.
Northwestern begins its competition with three exhibition matches, including a trip to Des Moines, Iowa on August 19 to take on Drake before a matchup against 2014 NCAA Qualifier Creighton in Omaha on August 22. The Blue Jays were one win away from advancing to the semifinals last season and finished the season ranked No. 7 in the final NSCAA poll with a mark of 16-3-3.
The Wildcats begin their 36th regular season, and 15th under Lenahan, when they host Colgate at UIC's Flames Field on August 29. The 'Cats and Raiders will be meeting for just the second time in program history and the first time since a 3-0 NU win to open the 2007 season.
Single-game tickets for the 2015 Men's Soccer season are available by calling 888-GO-PURPLE. Due to construction at Lanny & Sharon Martin Stadium, the Wildcats will play a pair of games at UIC's Flames Field and seven games at the home of Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire Toyota Park.
