NAJU, SOUTH KOREA - Wildcats rising sophomore Hannah Kim fired a 9-over 297 over 72 holes at Gold Lake Country Club to earn an 11th place individual finish and help lead Team USA to a bronze medal at the 2015 World University Games. The reigning Big Ten Player of the Year was one of three collegians selected to represent the United States at the biennial event.
"Being invited to represent your country is an enormous honor, and earning a medal while doing so is something Hannah will remember forever," said head coach Emily Fletcher. "We encourage our student-athletes to remain competitive during the summer months. Going up against some of the best young golfers in the world and earning a spot on the podium is not just a tremendous accomplishment on its own, but can be a great springboard to the fall season."
The Chula Vista, California, native and teammates Lauren Kim (Stanford University) and Eimi Koga (University of Washington) all competed at the 2015 NCAA Golf Championships in May, where Northwestern earned a program-best 10th place finish. Her rookie season in Evanston included Big Ten Player of the Year & Freshman of the Year honors as well as one of the three-best single-season stroke averages in Wildcats history.
The World University Summer Games have been conducted every two years since 1971 and trace their origins back to 1959 in Turin, Italy.
