TUKWILA, Wash. -- Tyler Miller, the 2014 Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year for the Wildcats, signed with Seattle Sounders FC2 and shut out Arizona United FC in his debut for the club on Sunday night at Starfire Stadium. Major League Soccer's Sounders FC selected Miller in the Second Round (33rd overall) in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft and, following a brief stint in Germany's Fourth Division, Miller is now signed to S2's roster.
"Tyler is a goalkeeper we have had our eye on for a long time, and had the chance to get him involved out of the draft," Sounders FC 2 General Manager Andrew Opatkiewicz told SounderFC.com this weekend. "He made a decision to get some experience abroad, and we are happy he has decided to be a part of the Sounders organization. Goalkeeping is a strong department in our club right now, from the Academy all the way to the First Team, and we believe Tyler will only add to the quality we have in the position currently. We are excited for what he will bring to the position."
The Woodbury, N.J., native rewrote the Northwestern record books over four years in Evanston. This past season he was honored as both an All-American and a Scholar All-American. He was also a unanimous choice as Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year and a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten First Team after leading the Big Ten in goals against average (0.56) save percentage (.853) and shutouts (9), and breaking the program's career record for clean sheets.

Miller was part of a senior class recruited by head coach Tim Lenahan that led Northwestern to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and three pieces of Big Ten hardware. This spring the Communication Studies major made his first career start for the U-23 United States Men's National Team, earning his first shutout in the process by making two saves in a 1-0 victory against Qatar in the 2015 Toulon Tournament in Aubagne, France.
