"I am really proud of the way we played today," said head coach Emily Fletcher. "It was tough and the girls just continued grinding. To see the progress we have made over the last seven years is just incredible."
Northwestern carded a 14-over 302 on Monday and was led by junior Suchaya Tangkamolprasert, who had her best round of the tournament, recording even-par. The Bangkok, Thailand, native sat inside the top 20 for the duration of the event and completed the tournament tied for 10th overall for the highest individual finish in team history.
"It was obviously a team effort," Tangkamolprasert said. "Seeing [my teammates] fight so hard really kept me going and definitely brought out my best game."
NU cracked the top eight in the fourth round after two Wildcats carded birdies on the ninth hole of the day, but Chicago's Big Ten Team slipped below No. 8 Arkansas and No. 7 Washington down the stretch. Northwestern, who entered the tournament ranked No. 14, placed ahead of third-ranked UCLA, sixth-ranked LSU, No. 10 Virginia and No. 11 Wake Forest.
Sophomore Kacie Komoto was two strokes behind Tangkamolprasert on Monday, scoring a 2-over 74. Komoto came out strong on the front nine with a birdie on the 492-yard, par-5 No. 17 to counter a bogey on the 14th hole. The Honolulu, Hawaii, native was playing in her second NCAA Championship event and was the second-highest NU finisher behind Tangkamolprasert with a 14-over 302 (77-73-78-74). Komoto had one of the best rounds of the tournament on Saturday, using three birdies to fire a 1-over 73 to lead the Wildcats on day two.
Sarah Cho shot an 81 on the final day of competition as the 2015 Big Ten Individual Champion finished among the tournament's Top-60, scoring 25-over 313 (77-78-77-81).
Hana Lee wrapped up her final trip to the NCAA Championships with a 31-over 319 (83-76-80-80). The 2015 Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Year Hannah Kim finished with her best second-best round of the tournament on Memorial Day, shooting 4-over 76.
It was another stellar season for 2015 Big Ten Coach of the Year Emily Fletcher and the Wildcats as they competed against the nation's best at the NCAA Women's Golf Championships. The 2014-15 season featured eight top-five finishes, including a first-place finish at the Big Ten Championships and a second-place finish at the NCAA Raleigh Regional. Four Wildcats that competed at NCAA's will return to the squad for the 2015-16 season.
